- Define occupational therapy (OT), it’s role in treating both physical and mental health conditions, and how it fits into a community mental health setting and comprehensive class member transition program.
- Understand the role of OT in working with class members during pre-transition period including; assessment process, skill building opportunities and collaboration with housing locators and interdisciplinary transition team.
- Understand the role of OT in working with class members post-transition, including; continued IADL and ADL assessment/skill building in new living environment and collaboration with new community mental health teams
- Define assistive technology (AT) and how it contributes to engagement in meaningful activities for people with disabilities
- List and understand the sequence of AT assessments and services provided by the Assistive Technology Unit (ATU) to support class members in community reintegration
- Identify 2 examples of AT that support members with physical disabilities and 2 examples of AT that support members with psychiatric disabilities
- Gain a broad understanding of funding guidelines for various types of AT devices/equipment/modifications, and the limitations to each type of funding (e.g.. insurance, grant funding, donation/lending closets, self-pay, etc.), with specific consideration to long-term maintenance issues.
2.0 CEUs are offered for licensed nurses, social workers, professional counselors, and nursing home administrators.
