The Corporation for Supportive Housing provides support to Colbert & Williams Class Members on finding and maintaining housing in the community. These are recorded webinars on various aspects of this domain as well as additional resources.

Sample Appeal Letters created by Legal Aid Chicago – Each Sample Letter includes:

  1. Educational Letter – can be sent prior to an applicant applying
  2. Soft Demand Letter – can be sent when applicant is denied and they are trying to convince the Landlord to change their policy
  3. Hard Demand Letter – can be sent when the Landlord ignores the Soft Demand Letter

 

As the number of Class Members in the community is growing, so is the saturation of neighborhoods, landlord relationships, and need for housing resources. CSH in conjunction with the Division of Mental Health created community profiles to give the support staff and Class Members the opportunity to learn about other neighborhoods that are less saturated and offer similarities to neighborhoods and area that they are more familiar with.

The compilation document below includes Albany Park, Grand Boulevard, West Ridge, Near North Side, Avalon Park, and Logan Square. Individual documents are also provided for Humboldt Park and North Chicago.

Effective January 2020, Cook County landlords can no longer ask about arrest or conviction records on a housing application, and cannot consider conviction records more than 3 years old, arrests, charges, or citations, or certain other legal background issues in approving an application for housing.
